Kicking off our new series of "Did You Know" financial education posts with this great tip from our bilingual counselor, Xenia. Share this with your friends to help those who might also be trying to tackle debt and improve credit scores, and follow #racinefecdidyouknow to get more tips from this series!

We often think if we just make a payment towards our credit card balance by the DUE date, that we're fine. Technically, yes. But, turns out, if you can pay before the STATEMENT date instead, it not only helps you avoid late payments but also means that the amount of your credit you're using (your "utilization" percentage) will be lower when your card reports your balance to the credit bureaus. Lower utilization + fewer late payments leads to improved credit score!
